Asphalt Anthropology: Essential Safety Tactics for City Life

  • SPBID Office 1150 South Hope Street Los Angeles, CA, 90015 United States (map)

Described by the LA Times as “The street smart way of knowing, enjoying L.A.”, this is a self defense class without the kicking or punching that has been taught in the LAPD Community Academy, students of FIDM as well as to businesses and residents throughout DTLA.

This course breaks down what drives violence so that you know WHAT to look for. Designed to meet the needs of city dwellers, it is also taught to at-high-risk women living in Los Angeles’ Skid Row and as a part of LAPD’s Community Police Academy. Because these urban environments provide a concentration of violence they can be studied for principles that anyone can learn from, regardless of where they live.

Developed and taught by an avid urban explorer, martial artist and self-defense instructor, this course adapts insights from military and law enforcement training for use by the everyday citizen.
